The BBC says most people have only read 6 books from this list of 100.
The 17 books in bold are what I have read. I consider myself an avid reader and fairly well-read, but maybe I'm just reading the wrong things. I'm a bit embarassed by how many of the classics I haven't read. Probably about half of the these books are on my shelves at home. I don't do New Years' resolutions, but I do set a reading goal every year. Maybe my 2011 goal will be to read at least X number of books from this list.

I've also only read 17 from that list. 5 more are already on my 2011 list. I loved Germinal, I totally recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI did this for my Facebook. I think I read something like 60 of them. But I took British Lit in high school.
ReplyDeleteI've read 24 of these, but I think the list is faulty. If you don't like Jane Austen, and I don't, then that eliminates about 5 books - maybe 4, since I read one to decide that I don't like her. And the HP series is 7 books, the Pullman series is 3. This is why I don't like lists that try to be definitive, lol!
ReplyDeleteI didn't count how many of these I have read....but just glancing at the list it is probably 3 or 4! I do love to read, but I just haven't read many of these. I may use this list as I choose what to read next....after I read the latest two John Grisham novels. Ha!
