The intention words I selected for 2009 are: flow & self. I chose flow because I constantly need to have control over things and I want to learn to let go and relax. Self was fitting because I often find myself putting the needs and wants of everyone around me at the top of my list while my own needs and wants find their way to the bottom.
The spa is one of my favorite places in the entire world. I love the tranquility and how you're basically forced to push all of your worries out of your head while you're there and just relax. There are two things that keep me from going their regularly: time and money.
I had some down time last night and decided some pampering was in order. Instead of a visit to the spa, I recreated the experience in my own bathroom. I lit candles all over the room, put in a relaxation CD and filled the tub with enough hot water to soak my feet and calves. I gave myself a nice pedicure and opened a brand new bottle of body lotion that I received as a Christmas gift and have been dying to try. Afterwards I put on my favorite, comfy fleece pajamas and curled up on the couch with my husband and my dog to watch our Monday night TV shows: The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother.
It only took about an hour for me to feel perfectly pampered and relaxed to the point of being almost Jell-O. It's amazing how something so simple and DIY can make me feel so great. I'm thinking about making regular "appointments" with myself in the future so I don't get too wrapped up in other things to forget how enjoyable it was.
